Katrineholm Municipality reminds residents that garden waste should primarily be composted or taken to a recycling centre. Burning is only allowed in certain cases and under specific conditions.

Weeks 17 and 40

If you live in a detail-planned area, garden waste may only be burned in week 17 and week 40. A private bonfire on Walpurgis Night does not require a separate permit, but burning must be on a small scale, must not disturb neighbours and is not allowed during fire bans.

You may burn leaves, branches and brush — not plastic, painted wood or other waste that belongs in recycling. Larger amounts should be driven to the recycling centre rather than burned at home.

Fire bans

During dry weather or high fire risk, a fire ban may be imposed. It then applies to everyone, regardless of week number. The municipality refers to its page on when burning is permitted for the full rules.
