Municipality warns: read your electricity contract before you confirm

Consumer advice in Katrineholm and Vingåker is receiving many questions from people who feel they were misled when signing electricity contracts. In some cases the agreement also included signing up for an ID protection service.

Written confirmation can be a signature, BankID or a yes reply by text. Read the full contract before you confirm and check which services you are agreeing to, what they cost and how long the contract runs — especially if the offer bundles several services.

You do not have to decide on the spot. If anything is unclear, ask the company to explain the terms first. For distance contracts, for example by phone or online, consumers normally have a 14-day right of withdrawal.

If you have already signed a contract you are unsure about, act as soon as you can. Consumer advice is free and impartial: konsument@katrineholm.se, phone 0150-570 50 on Wednesdays 08:00–09:45, or via the e-service on katrineholm.se.
