When rain puts a beach visit or playground trip on hold, there are several ways to spend time indoors with children in Katrineholm. Read together at the library, swim at Duveholmshallen, go bowling or choose a film at the cinema.

These five options suit a rainy day. Some work for a short visit, while others take a little planning. Start by deciding whether you want something quiet or active, and check the day’s opening hours before leaving home.

1. Read and choose books at the library

Katrineholm Library is in Kulturhuset Ängeln at Djulögatan 27. Its children’s and young people’s section has books and magazines, and the librarians can help find something that matches your child’s interests.

Turn the visit into a shared discovery: choose a book each, look for a particular animal in the pictures or let your child decide what to read aloud. An older child might prefer a factual book about a favourite subject to a story.

During school holidays, the library also runs activities such as crafts, treasure hunts and reading aloud. These have scheduled times and appear in the municipality’s events calendar, so do not expect them every day. Check each listing for ages and any registration requirements.

Getting a library card and borrowing books are free. Your rainy-day visit can therefore give you something to continue at home. Check the library’s staffed opening hours. An ordinary visit to browse books does not have to coincide with an event.

2. Swim at Duveholmshallen

For children who want to be active, the swimming pool at Västgötagatan 39 is an option. Facilities include an adventure pool with a children’s lagoon, a teaching pool, a 25-metre pool and a diving pool.

The 2026 price list gives day admission as SEK 20 for children aged 0–7, SEK 55 for young people aged 8–17 and SEK 80 for adults. Accompanying visitors normally pay admission even if they do not swim.

Bring swimwear, a towel and a padlock for the locker. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult aged at least 18 who has changed into swimwear and can swim, even if the child can swim. The same requirement applies to non-swimmers of any age. Ordinary family visits allow a maximum of three accompanying children per adult. Never leave children unsupervised.

The pool is normally closed to the public on Mondays. Swimming lessons also use the teaching pool during parts of weekdays. Check both opening hours and availability of the pool you want to use.

3. Book a bowling lane

Katrineholms Bowlingscenter is also at Västgötagatan 39. Bowling is an option for doing something together, taking turns without having to plan a full day out.

Book a lane on the bowling centre’s website and check the rate for your chosen time. The venue is cashless. On Fridays and Saturdays, an age limit of 18 applies from 6 pm, although children may attend with a parent or guardian.

For a first visit with younger children, ask about bowling aids and suitable balls when booking. This will help you decide whether the activity suits your child. Choose a time that fits your family’s energy levels and ask what the booking includes.

4. Watch a film at Cinema 3

Cinema 3 at Drottninggatan 19 is an option for children who enjoy following a story and sitting through a cinema screening.

Choose a film based on your child’s interests, its running time and its age rating. For younger children, also check whether it is dubbed into Swedish.

Since 2 October 2026, Katrineholm’s cinema programme and ticket sales are on the Cinemascenen website. Select Katrineholm for the correct cinema and screening. Check the start time and ticket price when booking, then plan the rest of your day around the film.

5. Visit the art gallery in Kulturhuset Ängeln

Katrineholm Art Gallery is in the same cultural centre as the library. A visit can be short and simple: choose a few works and talk about colours, figures or what the picture brings to mind.

Exhibitions change. In autumn 2026, the gallery is showing Stina Wirsén — an exhibition for children and their adults. It runs until 21 November 2026.

During this exhibition, the gallery also opens on Sundays 4, 11, 18 and 25 October, from 10 am to 3 pm. There are scheduled tours and art workshops too. Check the programme if you want to join an activity; creative sessions run at specific times.

You can combine the library and gallery in one visit. Let your child’s interests guide how long you spend in each.

Choose an activity that suits your day

The library suits a visit where you can leave whenever you feel ready. Bowling and cinema visits involve booked times, while swimming requires a packed bag and a check on pool availability.

To see whether there is a special activity today or during the school holidays, check Katrineholmsguiden’s events calendar. When the weather improves, our guide to things to do with children in Katrineholm has more ideas for outings.
