Fishing near Katrineholm – lakes and where to buy permits
Aspen, Yngaren or Öljaren? Find permits, prices and key rules to help you plan a fishing trip near Katrineholm.
· Details checked 3 October 2026
There are several fishing waters around Katrineholm, but choose your lake before packing the car. A fishing permit covers a specific area, and rules vary between waters. Öljaren, for example, is an option for fishing from a boat. At Aspen and Yngaren, you will need to find a suitable spot within the permit area first.
Here are three lakes to start with. For local help, Katrineholm Tourist Information sells fishing permits at Stortorget 8D in the town centre. Links to permits, maps and the operators’ rules are listed below.
Aspen – perch and pike north of town
Aspen is about 20 kilometres north of Katrineholm, close to road 56. According to the fishing rights holder, Fågelsta säteri, perch and pike are the lake’s main fish species.
A two-day permit costs SEK 100. A two-day permit including a boat is also available for SEK 150, which may be useful if you do not have your own. Permits are sold online through iFiske.
Choose the correct permit and contact Fågelsta säteri before travelling to confirm how the boat arrangement works. Check where to collect it and whether it is available for your planned trip.
Want to fish from the shore? Ask the rights holder for a suitable spot and read the permit conditions. The swimming area mentioned in the lake description should not automatically be treated as a fishing spot.
Yngaren – check which waters your permit covers
Yngaren has large stretches of open water and reed-lined shores. Its fish include perch, pike and zander. The permit issued by Yngaren and Mäskaren’s fishery association covers most of Yngaren and Mäskaren, but not every part of the lakes.
The association’s map marks the included waters in blue. Check it before choosing your spot, even if you are going with someone who fishes there regularly.
A one-day permit costs SEK 175 and a three-day permit costs SEK 300. Both are sold through iFiske. The association allows fishing with hand-held tackle, but prohibits methods including trolling and crayfish fishing. Fishing for zander is prohibited from 15 May to 15 June.
For a first visit, choosing a suitable place matters as much as choosing a lure. Contact the association for help finding a shore fishing spot within the permit area. This guide does not list a verified fishing jetty at Yngaren.
Öljaren – an option when you have a boat
Öljaren lies in Katrineholm and Vingåker municipalities. Its fish include perch, pike and zander. A day permit issued by Öljarens fiskevårdsområdesförening costs SEK 100 and is sold through iFiske.
The key difference from an ordinary shoreside outing is in the association’s rules: fishing is permitted from a boat or the ice, at least 50 metres from the nearest shore. This permit therefore does not cover standing on the shore and casting.
Only hand-held tackle is allowed; trolling and crayfish fishing are excluded. The association’s website provides information about boat hire and launching places. Confirm availability and arrangements beforehand if you need to hire a boat.
Plan a simple fishing trip
Start with three questions: Which lake do you want to fish? Will you fish from the shore or a boat? Which permit covers that place and method? Once those are settled, packing is much simpler.
Bring a rod, a few lures, pliers, a picnic and a bag for rubbish. Keep your permit available and wear a life jacket in a boat. For a short family outing, somewhere safe to move around and stop for a snack often matters more than trying lots of different spots.
If children will be fishing, read the relevant issuer’s conditions for children and families. These differ between waters; do not assume an adult permit automatically covers everyone in your group.
The municipality recommends iFiske and Fiskekartan for finding more fishing waters. Tourist Information can also help you plan. Check current prices and rules with the issuer before each trip. The prices in this guide were checked on 3 October 2026.
